Not Sure if You Should Buy New Tires or Not?
Most of us have seen piles of used tires along the roadside at some point in our lives. So the question most people ask themselves at one point or another is if they should buy either used or new tires. Used tires will save you money, and can often stand up to time quite well. Both used and new tires are good options, depending on a few different factors.
Some retailers have deals where you can purchase 3 tires and get the 4th one free. You may not have to replace the 4th tire, however, you do so because it’s free. Used tires which are only slightly worn, could be a better option when you are looking to save money.
The flip side will be buying an old or worn out tire which is not safe to use. Used tires will often have defects, punctures or tread-wear which you may or may not be able to see. When you are considering buying a used tire you should first test the depth of the tread, this can be done using a penny. Just flip the penny upside down and put it inside each of the tire’s tread. When you can see the top of Lincoln’s head then the tread is too low.
However, when the tread is still good, you will still have to inspect the tire for defects. This is the hard part, as there will be some problems which are not noticeable until the tire is actually on your vehicle. Buying a used tire which is already plugged or patched does save you money, however, we advise against this. Worn tires do not stop as quickly, and are more likely to skid on wet or slippery surfaces.
New tires do come with a guarantee or warranty which their used counterparts do not. So if you are looking for more piece of mind when driving your vehicle, then new tires are the way to go.
